Penelope Cruz signs on for Ridley Scotts The Counselor

LOS ANGELES, June 14 Most recently seen in Woody Allens comedy To Rome With Love and the action adventure of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Penelope Cruz has signed on to Ridley Scotts upcoming thriller The Counselor.

The thrillers all-star cast features Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and Javier Bardem, Cruzs spouse, with Cameron Diaz rumoured to join, according to Deadline Hollywood.

The Counselor screenplay, about a lawyer whose involvement in drug trafficking finds him in danger, is written by novelist Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men, The Road).

Cruz (picture) will play the love interest to Fassbenders character, the lawyer. Bardem will portray a wealthy business associate of the attorney and Pitt will play a shady character.

Next up, Cruz reunites with Pedro Almodvar for the fifth time in Los amantes pasajeros (Standby Lovers), a comedy about a love affair aboard an airplane, costarring the directors frequent collaborators, Lola Dueas, Javier Camara and Cecilia Roth. AFP
