Cruz to work with Almodovar again
The Spanish star is said to be joining Lola Duenas, Cecilia Roth, Paz Vega and Javier Camara in the upcoming film, Deadline reported.
It would be the first time the actress and filmmaker have collaborated since 2009's Broken Embraces.
The movie's plot is being kept under wraps, but it is rumoured to be a comedy about an affair on board an aeroplane.
Filming is scheduled to start in the summer.
Penelope, who welcomed son Leonardo in January 2011 with husband Javier Bardem, is also set to work with Ridley Scott on The Counsellor.
She has joined a star-studded cast including Javier, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and Michael Fassbender on the upcoming thriller, which has been written by On The Road's Cormac McCarthy.
It would be the first time that the couple have worked together on the big screen since Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2008.
Michael is already on board to star as a respected lawyer who dabbles in drug dealing, while Brad could be signing up for a supporting role as Westray, "a business associate of the Counsellor".
There is no word on Penelope's role, although she is tipped to play the fiancee of Michael's character.
