Penlope Cruz, Javier Bardem confirmed to be expecting second child

Penlope Cruz has confirmed that she is pregnant with her second child.

Speculation that the Spanish actress and her husband Javier Bardem were expecting another baby began to circulate earlier this year.

Cruz has now confirmed the news in an interview with Spanish TV station TVE, E! News reports.

The 38-year-old, who explained that she will be unable to attend Sunday's Goya Awards because of her pregnancy, revealed that she is "tremendously happy and excited" about the baby news.

Cruz and Bardem married at a friend's house in the Bahamas in 2010 and welcomed their son Leo in January 2011.

Cruz has previously described motherhood as "revolutionary", saying: "It transforms you completely, in a second."
