Penelope Cruz Gets Patriotic About Homeland Spain On Country's Financial Issues

WENNWENN

'Vanilla Sky' actress Penelope Cruz has stuck up for her homeland, Spain, after comments emerged about the financial crisis engulfing the country.

Penelope, who was in a long-term relationship with Tom Cruise before he married Katie Holmes, released a statement through her agent this morning noting that she wanted ''to rectify'' a quote attributing to her in an unnamed publication.

She was quoted saying: "I will produce a couple of films a year in Spain to provide work for hundreds of people."

And even though we reckon that sounds super nice, Penelope became paranoid that her claim sounded conceited and arrogant, urging her to release a follow up statement ''to discourage any possible misinterpretation.''

The 38-year-old Oscar winning actress wanted to stress her concern about the future of Spain's film industry, making it clear that she would encourage filmmakers to work in her home country as well as considering to promote co-productions there.

All sounds very thoughtful, Penelope!
